Activision has confirmed that it will be bringing the Angry Birds brand to consoles in some form, although no details have yet been announced.

The reveal was uncharacteristically subtle for Activision: merely a single, yet instantly recognisable red bird crashing into a giant company logo on the video wall of the publisher's E3 booth. Inserted between CoD footage and a trailer for The Amazing Spiderman, the tease was first spotted by an eagle-eyed Escapist journalist.

When questioned on the matter, Activision's statement was fairly straightforward.

"We'll have some news for you in about two weeks," said a spokesperson. "Wait until you see Angry Birds on consoles in HD."

The reveal was also backed up by Activision blog One of Swords, which promised more details soon.

I dont think I can sit on a coach long enough to play angry birds on a home console. It works on mobile devices, but on home consoles the monotony would kill me. i hope they dont expect me to pay 60$ for this.

I don't understand why Rovio need Activision in order to get Angry Birds released on consoles. The marketing is already done due to the extreme level of brand awareness. Distribution would be relatively simple on XBL or PSN. So the question I ask is: what does Activision bring to the table?

I also wonder if the USP of a console version "it's in HD!!!" is enough to tempt gamers who already own the game on handheld platforms to buy yet another version.
