NPD Group report for May will finally include Walmart data

The NPD numbers being released in June will include sales numbers from one of America's largest retailers

The NPD Group's monthly sales report has come under fire in the past for not having sales data from every retail source available in North America. NPD Group executive director of corporate marketing David Riley told Joystiq that its report would soon be getting data from North America's largest retailer: Walmart.

The news about Walmart's deal with The NPD Group broke months ago, but it's only now that the data is finally going to be incorporated into monthly reporting.

"Our enhanced retail coverage, including the addition of several new retailers, begins with May data released on Thursday, June 14," Riley said in an email. "Yes, it does include Walmart."

It's still missing digital sales, a sector which has been growing steadily for the past few years, but it's a great step towards getting accurate retail sales data.
