Report: Apple to acquire German TV manufacturer

Established in 1976, Apple is a multinational corporation (corporate headquarters based in California)...

Apple could be just days away from announcing the acquisition of Loewe AG, a German television manufacturer.

Negotiations are still ongoing, reported AppleInsider, with Loewe "advised by its financial advisor to accept the offer and a final decision is scheduled to be announced internally before 18 May 2012."

Apple is rumoured to have offered $112 million, or €87.3 million, in the deal.

Whispers of Apple entering the HDTV market have been circulating for some time. TGDailyreported that at a press conference this week Foxconn CEO Terry Gou revealed the factory complex was preparing to produce the Apple HDTV, though "development [and] manufacturing have yet to begin."

As long as the Apple TV's aren't twice the price of a regular high end LCD/LED it could be successful. Apple's prices on computers and monitors are so high that only the rich and Apple faithful buy them.

Problem there is theres allready a well established company called ITV.Here in Australia all those German TV companies like Metz,Grundig and Loewe all disapeared about the time CRT's did and the Japanese and Koreans completly took over.

They are also a very high-end brand, their devices are ludicrously expensive.
Is there any rumor saying what apple want to do with this TV? I mean, something they couldn't do with the appleTV aready?

@Taneem: Especially when it doesn't work once the cloud goes down.

I don't want a TV I can't use when something screws up the delivery system. At least I can pop in a DVD or play a disc/cart-based game when my cable goes out during a storm here (or has some other goofy issues as it does at least twice a year)...
