Between games and social apps, Sony believes interest in Vita's picking up

Sony Computer Entertainment America has now issued its NPD report response, and as usual the company decided not to mention any actual hardware sales figures, but provided the following quote about the PlayStation ecosystem.

"According to the April NPD, the PlayStation ecosystem continues to grow with exclusive titles such as MLB12: The Show landing in the top 5 SKUs," said Dan Race, Sr. Director of Corporate Communications at SCEA.

"Digital-only software titles, including Journey for PS3 and Escape Plan for PS Vita, helped to further bolster growth. PS Vita is gaining momentum as major new software titles like Mortal Kombat and social applications, such as Skype, saw strong demand with consumers. With E3 around the corner, PlayStation remains laser focused on continuing to deliver the industry's best gaming experiences."

It was revealed earlier today that PS Vita has sold 1.8 million units worldwide.

How is MLB12: The Show exclusive? And wasn't it the PS3 version that landed in the top 5 SKU's?

@ Jim, The Show is Sony's, and as for being in the top 5, the way NPD does charts is no longer on a SKU level - they combine all the different versions for one title so for The Show it's both PS3 and Vita versions that are counted towards sales.

I have a borther who has 4 Ipads none of them are used to play games, 2 are for each of his vehicles for movies for his kids too watch movies on while traveling, the other 2 are for him and his wife to watch movies on and browse the web. No serious gamer plays games on a I-pad, you really need to get that through your head Bruce.

James, that's what I figured. It just raised an eyebrow when they call it exclusive (I'm used to exclusive referring to one platform regardless of the maker of the other platform the title appears on) and then claiming a top 5 SKU when it obviously sold far better on PS3 and the combined total was 10th on the NPD chart.

I don't see how it's possible to be 10th on the combined title chart and yet have the lesser selling of 10th title SKU place 5th on the individual SKU chart. That would mean the PS3 version had to place higher than 5th. I just don't see how a game with a 5th place SKU and a higher placed SKU can only achieve 10th place when combined.

@bruce
I really doubt any of them bought there iPads to play games, im sure if you asked them theyd say games was very much a secondary reason for there purchasing of the iPad, not a primary one.

Why people always bashing Bruce, Dude has a point. When you have a console why do you need a vita. iPads can do everything + more than a vita. I know nearly everyone I know owns smartphone, ps3/xbox & iPad, nobody is interested, No kids i know are going 'I want a VITA'. The only interest Sony are having with VITA is them saying their is, their isnt. VITA will not outsell the PSP, now that is saying something.
