Activision has confirmed that the latest title in the Call of Duty franchise will launch on November 13 worldwide.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II is a sequel to the 2010 hit a game that is expected to outsell lifetime sales of last year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
Last year Activision upped the stakes with Modern Warfare 3 by introducing Call of Duty Elite, a social service for online players, but a troubled launch saw the reputation of the franchise take a hit as it struggled technically to meet player demand. Despite the hiccups, the service has 1.5 million paying members.
Activision aims for a November release for its number one console property, and this year goes up against a similar release window for high-profile titles including Bioshock Infinite, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, Assassin's Creed III and Halo 4.

"Call of Duty: Black Ops II is a sequel to the 2009 hit a game"
It came out in 2010, not 2009.
Will be interesting to see how all these big-hitters fare this year - I suspect Assassin's Creed, being so different to all these other franchises, will do well regardless, but considering BlOps 2 is now going to be launching a week after Halo 4, there's bound to be some audience crossover. Considering Microsoft will be putting more marketing behind Halo 4 than any other instalment to date, I wonder whether it will sell as well as Halo 3 did.
I suspect Sony will be wanting to release God of War IV or perhaps The Last of Us as it's winter big-hitter, but as far as I know, developers of both games will not be drawn into talking about release dates yet.
Will also be interesting to see if and how the Wii U launch affects all this, and whether Nintendo will have any of their core killer-apps to launch with it. Surely they don't want to repeat the flat launch of the 3DS, so getting a Metroid or Mario or Mario Kart etc instalment in the launch window will be vital for them.
