Eric Brown announces new sales numbers at SF conference

EA's CFO Eric Brown has revealed that Battlefield 3 has sold over 8 million copies worldwide, shipping twelve million copies to retailers.

Speaking at the Baird Technology Conference in San Francisco, Brown highlighted the game's continuing healthy sales a month after launch, building on the firm base established by five million week one sales. EA are clearly hoping that this long tail will continue through the Christmas period.

Next month Battlefield 3 will receive its first map-pack update with a bundle of classic Battlefield maps from previous games in a download titled 'Back to Karkand'. Exact dates and pricing have not been announced.

Well done to DICE in creating the biggest Battlefield to date - the DLC coming up will probably help to maintain sales of the title. Great timing on that!

Good going DICE, i have been really enjoying this incarnation of the Battlefield series and its also good to see I'm not the only one. So long as EA don't become greedy and start charging vast amount for DLC content (with the bad company 1 & 2 map packs all being free) I'm confident the sales will continue. We know it won't beat the mighty COD franchise in total sales this Christmas but it's certainly a step in the right direction to dethrone the constant rehashes of COD stagnating the market.

Nice figures for a months worth of sales.. Not sure about longevity though as its already at #10 in the charts, I guess it will go up prior to Christmas. I completed the SHORT campaign on the hardest setting in around 6 hours and not really been bothered with online multiplayer as its the generic DICE multiplayer experience with jets and slightly bigger maps than BFBC, BFBC2, BF1943 and MoH, been there done that for hours in the past! Would like to see EA's Danger Close do the next Battlefield Campaign as their MoH campaign was far batter than DICES glitchy BF3 campaign.. Dice will also more than likely only release DLC for multiplayer which means those gamers who prefer single player miss out..!
