Five games included in British design exhibition

Five videogames will be included in an exhibition of classic British design at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, according to the Huffington Post.

The exhibition is intended to coincide with the Olympic Games, which will take place in London next year. It is called British Design 1948-2012: Innovation in the Modern Age, and covers the period since the last time the UK hosted the Olympics.

The games chosen for the show are Elite, Lemmings, Grand Theft Auto, Tomb Raider and Little Big Planet.

"We consulted plenty of people in the gaming industry, and it was clear that Lara Croft had to be in there," said curator Ghislaine Wood. "She was the first female action character."

"Lemmings was a historically important early game from DMA in Dundee. Grand Theft Auto, who we're still in talks with, was the first cityscape you could navigate, and the game that launched Rockstar. While Little Big Planet brings a new depth of user-generated content into games."

The games will be exhibited among a total of 350 examples of classic British design including Concorde and the Jaguar E-Type.

British Design 1948-2012: Innovation in the Modern Age will run from March 31 to August 12 2012 at the Victoria & Albert Museum.
