Social growth bumps up Konami sales in Q1

Dragon Collection becomes big hit in Japan, Pro Evo series sells over 70m units

Sales in Konami's video game business were up 4.3 per cent for the first quarter, from ¥25 billion ($314.5m / £191.9m) to ¥26.1 billion ($328.2m / £200.3m).

Net sales for the entire Konami Corporation were ¥54.9 billion ($690.3m / £421.1m), up 3.3 per cent, while profits increased 219 per cent to ¥4 billion ($50.2m / £30.6m).

Mobile title Dragon Collection, distributed by Gree, saw growth during the three months and now boasts 3 million players - it has been Gree's top-ranking title in Japan for 37 weeks and launched on smartphones in June.

Another social game from the publisher, Sengoku Collection, has acquired 1.5 million members since distribution began with Mobage in December 2010.

In the home video game business, the Winning Eleven (Pro Evolution Soccer) series has now sold over 70 million units, according to Konami.
