Kojima Productions unveils Fox engine

Fri 03 Jun 2011 8:23am GMT / 4:23am EDT / 1:23am PDT

New tech designed for multiplatform and will power next game

Hideo Kojima's studio has unveiled a new engine which will power the company's next game in a pre-E3 Konami showcase.

Kojima spoke about the new engine as a key factor in shortening multiplatform development times and said that he hopes it will become the "best in the world". 2011 would be "a year of preparations," he said, with more news on his new title to be expected in 2012.

At the end of March, Hideo Kojima was promoted vice president at Konami Digital, which gave him more creative freedom at the company.

Also at the showcase were announcements of a new, NGP-based Silent Hill game, a PS3 and Xbox 360 Metal Gear Solid collection and a teaser for a new Contra title. Kojima also confirmed the long-suspected Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker HD port to PlayStation 3.

Kojima only does wonders! (Adjusts his Kojima Specs)

Personally I am glad he didn't stop making/directing games after MGS4, he is a true visionary! With his new role hopefully we can see a resurgence in Konami as they still have some of the best IP in the industry.

I'm surprised going multiplatform has taken them so long. It's good to see a Japanese firm has recognised that they should be properly supporting 360 as well to keep doing good business.

JPN is somewhat outsider phobic when it comes to consoles, I wouldn't be surprised if he was only referring to the ability to release on both the NGP and 3DS

Well Patrick Kojima Productions is focused so far on MGS games and the main audience for that series is on PlayStation. It needs to be seen how well a MGS game does on the 360 sales wise. I'm still not convinced with Rising, what has been shown looks to action oriented to me and to bloody to actually be a proper MGS game, but then again thats just my taste as someone who played games since the original MSX versions of that series.

I think the military themes of MGS would be happily accepted on 360 by then again, with no multiplayer element they might not be that bothered.

I agree about Rising. I find it hard to assume that it will be atraight forward action as MGS was designed to be different to the competition. Possibly it will be a more tactical game like Vanquish was meant to be. I would be very interested in that but it if they pushed that so it is as important as hiding was for Snake.
