The iPad 2, perhaps Apple's worst-kept secret, is reportedly due to be announced next week.

While there has been no actual sighting of its second-generation tablet (or confirmation of its name), photographs of its casing and various apparent third-party accessories have done the rounds in recent months.

All Things Digital claims to have had confirmation from multiple sources that Apple will unveil the new tablet on March 2, in San Fransico.

Among the many persistent rumours about iPad 2 are a slimmer build, improved display, twin cameras and a new processor.

Also a subject of some debate is a possible appearance from Apple boss Steve Jobs, currently on sabbatical for health reasons. Although believed to be seriously ill, Jobs was recently seen at a dinner hosted by Barack Obama.
