Activision's shooter sequel Call of Duty: Black Ops has been confirmed as the best-selling game of 2010 at UK retail - outselling all competition in less than two months on sale.
The Treyarch-developed PS3, 360 and PC title brought in £113.8 million in its first week of sales, which has been hailed as the highest-grossing week ever for a game in the UK.
UKIE and Chart-Track figures put the November release ahead of longer-standing titles such as EA's FIFA 11 (second place), Ubisoft's Just Dance (third) and Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption (fourth).
Ubisoft had the most entries in the top ten best sellers, with Just Dance 2 and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood also placing. The Just Dance games also occupied first and third slots in the Wii-only chart.
Despite widespread lamentations about the Wii's performance in 2010, four of the all-formats top ten were Wii-exclusive games, with the only other platform exclusive being the Xbox 360's Halo: Reach.
Sony's Gran Turismo 5 placed third in the PS3-only chart, though it should be noted that Polpyhony's much-delayed driving sim was released just five weeks before the end of the year.
Said UKIE boss Michael Rawlinson, "2010 was another strong year for the video games industry, with record breaking sales figures from games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops.
"2010 also saw casual gaming really take off, particularly on social networking sites and on mobile phones. With more video games than ever before being played, on an ever growing range of games consoles, PCs, mobile phones, mobile devices and internet enabled TVs, the industry has widened beyond all expectations and will continue to expand exponentially in 2011."
The all-formats top ten is as follows:
- 01 Call of Duty: Black Ops - Activision (PS3, 360, PC)
- 02 FIFA 11 - EA (PS3, 360, PC)
- 03 Just Dance - Ubisoft (Wii)
- 04 Red Dead Redemption - Rockstar (PS3, 360)
- 05 Wii Fit Plus - Nintendo (Wii)
- 06 Just Dance 2 - Ubisoft (Wii)
- 07 Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood - Ubisoft (PS3, 360)
- 08 Wii Sports Resort - Nintendo (Wii)
- 09 Halo: Reach - Microsoft (360)
- 10 Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - EA (PS3, 360, PC)

Sad really, I booted Black ops up on my PS3 yesterday after about a month and a half and still nothing is fixed...
Still can't join my friend in a party (my NAT type is on open btw), still get menu bugs, still get texture bugs, party system still fails all the time, game lobby still closes constantly, still cant back out with your party after you played 1 game and it still doesn't pick the best host out like it did in MW2...
Finally after 1hour of trying, failing and getting frustrated, I joined a random game and invited my friend over we were finally able to play toghter (without the insurance of being on the same team).
cmon Treyarch/Activision, start caring, im sure the Xbox/PC version have problems but its unplayable if you want to go as a party...
