New CEO for Atari

Atari SA has selected Jim Wilson as its new chief executive officer.

Wilson had been CEO of US subsidiary Atari Inc since 2008, and became deputy CEO and chairman of the board for the parent company in October 2010. He now steps into the shoes Jeff Lapin, who is leaving the firm for reasons unknown after just a year in the role.

The publisher has perhaps seen tough times of late, but "Jim has the board's full support as he continues to drive new goals of growth and success," claimed chairmen Frank Dangeard.

"At the end of Jeff's mandates, Atari is better positioned as we enter the next strategic phase of our plan."

The publisher appears to be increasingly focusing on digital projects, primarily its Atari GO service.

Lapin stated that he had "thoroughly enjoyed my time at Atari, and it was one of the most rewarding periods in my career. With Jim Wilson's leadership and management skills, Atari is well positioned for the future. I wish Atari and its employees great success."

Just days before Wilson's promotion, which came into effect on Christmas eve, Atari hired two new senior executives.
