Ubisoft buys Michael Jackson dev

Publisher brings Longtail Studios Quebec in-house

French publisher Ubisoft has acquired Canadian developer Longtail Studios Quebec.

48 employees were transferred to Ubisoft Quebec, with five or six rumoured to have lost their jobs.

Longtail's Queubec branch is most recently responsible for Dance on Broadway and Michael Jackson: The Experience (both are Ubisoft titles).

"The Longtail team has already completed several important projects for Ubisoft," the publisher told local paper Le Soleil.

"This initiative will allow Ubisoft Quebec to acquire additional expertise, as well as talented and experienced developers who participated in the development of key Kinect projects including Michael Jackson: The Experience. "

Longtail's three other studios and its NYC corporate offices are unaffected, but the employees joining Ubisoft constitute around half of the organisation's total staff.

The company claims it will increase headcounts at its Halifax branch in order to ramp up development.
