On-demand TV service to be integrated with motion and voice control on release day

The Sky Player service, which allows Xbox Live Gold account holders to watch certain Sky satellite programs live and on demand via their Xbox, is to receive full Kinect support from launch - allowing full motion and voice control of the player.

Microsoft's motion control and sensing device has been officially priced at £130 and will hit shops in the UK on November 10, 2010. Basic Sky Player packages are available from £15 per month.

"Selecting a favourite show, changing live channels, or easily scrolling forward and back through on-demand content is all made possible by a simple wave of a hand," said Microsoft's press release.

"Kinect for Sky Player on Xbox 360 will also let viewers control TV with their voice to pause, fast forward, rewind and play content."

Will the BBC iPlayer have kinect support whenever it finally arrives too? I still struggle to comprehend that PS3,Wii even iPhone etc can get it yet the 360 requires you to download the wmv to the PC and stream from there talk about user unfriendly

I doubt it Craig. I believe the BBC won't grant Microsoft usage of their iPlayer service because of their business model; i.e. Gold members would be the only ones offered it, so the Beeb aren't happy providing something that users have to pay for - licence fee notwithstanding ;)

Don't use BBC iplayer so not really fussed, I've seen it on the PS3 but not used, But as a sky HD viwer im more than happy with the SKY service that allows me to use the 360 to view tv on a different tv to that where ther Sky+ HD box is, and I'm looking forward to the kinect being able to control it.. Im currently off worl due to illness and I could really do with a kinect setup now...

I remember years and years ago people were developing gesture recognition for TV's and other things. This would be a nice idea.
