Activsion was the first (and second) name in North American console games this year. The company today announced that Call of Duty: WWII and Destiny 2 are 2017's top-selling console games in North America, based on revenue.

Call of Duty: WWII launched last month, and has already topped $1 billion in revenue worldwide. It's also the best-selling game in the series on the current generation of consoles.

"Call of Duty: WWII is the #1 top grossing console game of the year in North America, and Destiny 2 is #2," said Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg. "That means Call of Duty has been the #1 top grossing console gaming franchise in North America for a staggering nine years in a row, and worldwide eight out of the last nine years."

Destiny 2's praise came with more qualifiers and fewer numbers. The Bungie shooter sequel debuted in September, and Activision said it outsold its predecessor and stands as the biggest PC launch in Activision Publishing history. (Call of Duty: WWII is the biggest console digital launch for the company.)

Beyond those titles, Activision also saw success this year with Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy for the PlayStation 4. The company said the game is the top-selling remastered collection in that system's history, and was situated among the top 10 best-selling PS4 titles of 2017 in terms of units, although both of those claims only take into account sales though the end of October.
